My first film, DOG. 1979. I was recuperating from a hang-gliding accident at Torrey Pines, living with my sister in Tarzana and I had this dream about making a film where the voice over was what the dogs might actually be thinking....rather than Hollywood style anthropomorphistic sentimentalities.
When I got back to Toronto, I worked as a camera assistant for Dennis Miller and I borrowed his Eclair NPR, scrounged some short ends from the lab and shot the film. The editor didn't understand what I was trying to do till we were in the recording studio with the film already locked. I was too scared to insist. The voices are Joe Bodalai, Barry Stevens, Marien Lewis and myself. |
